Getting BumpFit - the benefits of exercise during pregnancy
Don’t leave it until you get pregnant to suddenly start exercising. A good physical condition prior to pregnancy is important and will enhance your ability to lead a healthy and active lifestyle throughout the pregnancy. But, if you really haven’t done anything before then it's not too late. It’s advisable to not take up a new sport if you’ve not done it before, but rather go for something with limited impact and one where the teacher is qualified fin prenatal exercise. Yoga is a fantastic exercise to do if you really have never done any exercise before, as it stretches and strengthens and also helps you with the relaxation and mindfulness of it all. So I would recommend doing that at the very least.
So what are the advantages of exercising during pregnancy?
Faster post natal recovery
Better circulation
Improved strength and endurance to help you through labour
Control of excess weight gain
Improved sleep patterns
Less back ache, improved posture and reduction in pregnancy related symptoms
Reduction in things like carpal tunnel, leg cramps, swelling, varicose veins, gestational diabetes etc)
Decreased stress and anxiety
As well as feeling generally better about yourself and giving you renewed energy
