The midlife energy rollercoaster
Let's talk about something we can all relate to: the wild ride of energy levels during midlife. If you've ever felt like your energy is playing a game of hide and seek with you, you're not alone! Welcome to the midlife energy rollercoaster, where the ups and downs are as unpredictable as the UK weather.
The Highs:
Remember the days when you could conquer the world on just a few hours of sleep? Ah, the glory days of youth! But as we gracefully (or not-so-gracefully) glide into midlife, those bursts of boundless energy seem like a distant memory. Fear not, though, because the highs of the midlife energy rollercoaster still pack a punch.
There are moments when you feel like you could rival Wonder Woman herself. You're tackling your to-do list with gusto, crushing workouts like a boss, and radiating confidence and positivity wherever you go. You're on top of the world, and nothing can stop you! Who needs caffeine when you've got this natural high coursing through your veins?
The Lows:
But then, just when you're riding high on a wave of productivity and enthusiasm, the inevitable crash happens. Suddenly, you feel like you've been hit by a ton of bricks. Your energy levels plummet, leaving you feeling drained, depleted, and wondering where it all went wrong.
These energy lows can strike at any moment, turning even the simplest tasks into Herculean feats. Suddenly, the thought of getting out of bed in the morning feels like an Olympic-level challenge, and the siren song of your sofa becomes impossible to resist. Hello Netflix and a cup of tea. Rock n roll folks!
Navigating the rollercoaster:
So, how do we navigate this wild ride of energy fluctuations? The key really, is to embrace the highs, ride out the lows, and remember that it's all part of the journey. Here are a few tips to help you stay sane amidst the chaos:
Listen to your body: Pay attention to what your body is telling you and honour its signals. If you're feeling low on energy, give yourself permission to rest and recharge. If you need to sit on that sofa and vegetate – do it! But make sure you get rid of your phone and STOP multitasking!
Prioritise self-care: Invest in activities that help your mind, body, and soul. Whether it's a bubble bath, a leisurely walk in nature, a cosy night in or a relaxing yoga routine, make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine.
Fuel your body: Eat nutritious foods that provide sustained energy throughout the day. Say goodbye to the sugar highs and crashes and hello to whole, nutrient-rich foods that keep you feeling energised and satisfied.
Move your body: Exercise is a powerful antidote to low energy levels, so find activities that you enjoy and make them a regular part of your routine. Whether it's yoga, dance (kitchen dance party for one?!), a jog or a game of tennis, find what makes your heart sing and move your body in ways that feel good.
Remember, the midlife energy rollercoaster may be unpredictable, but it's also a reminder that we're alive and kicking! We’ve got many years still ahead of us, so strap in for the ride!!
